Internship: Communications & Data Storytelling
Location: Amsterdam, Netherlands
About Fairfood
Fairfood is on a mission to accelerate the shift towards a sustainable food system—one where food is produced with respect for people, the planet, and animals, with value distributed fairly across supply chains. We work with businesses to improve their practices and support governments in creating effective regulations.
Research and compelling communication are at the heart of our mission. We are looking for a Communications Intern who is data savvy and can help us turn sustainability insights into engaging content across digital platforms.
As an intern, you’ll work alongside Fairfood’s research and communications team, helping to translate impact data from our projects and external research into clear and compelling narratives that resonate with our audience. Think of reports, blogs, newsletters, social media, and presentations. You’ll also support the backend management of the ALIGN platform, Fairfood’s digital guidance tool that helps companies navigate fair wages and incomes in their supply chains.
What You Will Do & Learn
Research & Data Analysis: Throughout the internship, you’ll sharpen your research skills by conducting desk research on sustainability topics, agri-food commodities, and supply chain challenges. You will learn how to identify, structure, and interpret data from reports, case studies, and Fairfood’s impact data, transforming insights into compelling narratives.
Data Visualisation & Communication: You’ll also gain hands-on experience in data-driven storytelling, learning how to turn complex insights into engaging narratives for reports, blogs, newsletters, and social media. Through this, you’ll improve your ability to communicate sustainability issues in a way that resonates with diverse audiences. Working with design and visualisation tools such as Excel, Canva, Flourish, or Tableau, you’ll contribute to developing materials for digital platforms and events.
Who You Are
A Fairfood intern is creative, independent, and passionate about sustainability. You might be currently enrolled in a university programme or looking for an opportunity to complement your learning journey with hands-on experience. You enjoy working with both words and numbers, feel comfortable diving into desk research, and are eager to grow your skills in data interpretation and visualisation to help tell impactful, evidence-based stories.
Please note: As a non-profit organisation, Fairfood is unable to offer a salary for this internship. However, we do provide a monthly contribution of EUR 225 to help cover transport and food expenses.
If you see yourself in the description, submit your CV and motivational letter by June 6th, or email [email protected] for extra questions.
